DIY DRESS UP STORAGE

It is no secret that I have a little diva on my hands.  My Miss Priss loves to dress up and always wants to wear heels!  Every year after Halloween we stock up on clearance dress up items for year round play.  This has led to an overflow of dress up in my home.  Until now I had everything shoved into one of those storage ottomans from Target.  Nothing was organized, everything was always all over the floor once Miss Priss found what she was looking for and this OCD Mama had had enough!

I had been searching for a while for the best piece of furniture for the best price possible that I could change into a dress up storage center.  Our new Salvation Army store opened right across the street from our neighborhood a few months ago and JACK POT!

I was able to get this dresser for a great price and there was really nothing wrong with it.  I originally wanted to take the doors off so that the dress up would be out in the open, but I then had other plans.  I turned this...

into this...

First we removed all of the hardware out of the dresser.  We ended up replacing it with some silver hinges that I found at Lowes that looked more sleek than those that originally came on it.  We then primed the dresser with two coats of Kilz Primer.

The next step was to paint it the color we wanted.  I chose a Classic Grey which matches perfectly in Miss Priss' room.  We painted the inside of the doors as well as the inside of the dresser.  We left the inside of the drawers wood grain as they would not be seen.

I was able to score these oversized pink crystal knobs at the Salvation Army Store as well for only $4 for all four!  They are huge and lavish which are perfect for a dress up dresser!

I then stenciled the same vine flower that is on the walls in Miss Priss' room onto the front doors of the dresser with acrylic paint.

I wanted to give her a place to display her jewelry that she loves so very much, so I bought some hooks with adhesive on the backs from the Dollar Tree and then bedazzled them with sticky stones from Michael's.  These cost a total of $3 for the four and I had stones left over.

I stuck these hangers on the inside of one of the doors for easy access.  No more tangled bead necklaces lost in a drawer.

On the other door I hung this beautiful mirror that I got half price at Hobby Lobby.  It is hung with one of the left over screws from the hinges.  They were a perfect length to not go all the way through the door.

In the drawers I placed three plastic shoe boxes without the lids that I purchased from the Dollar Tree.  These hold all of the tiaras, glasses and hats as well as other small accessories that needed a home.

We then hung a tension rod inside the dresser and hung up all of Miss Priss' dress up items.
Her shoes are lined up neatly at the bottom of the dresser.

She absolutely loves that she can now find everything neatly in one place without having to dig through it all.  It is the perfect height for her also (even without the heels...hehe).

For a finishing touch I purchased a chalkboard hanger from Hobby Lobby with my 40% off coupon and wrote "Dress Up" on it with my new Liquid Chalker Chalk Pens.  I think it brings it all together.
I am so happy that this is done and it looks fantastic in her room. I was able to accomplish this with about $100.00.  That is less than what they sell the pre-made ones for online.

We are both very happy for very different reasons. Ha!  How do you store your dress up?

DIY SCHOOL DAY CHALKBOARD HANGERS

School days are starting back in full force here in the South and so is the chaos that comes with them.  There is no reason why everyday tasks like getting the Littles dressed for school should be stressful and shouldn't be fun.
These DIY school day chalkboard hangers are a fun way to include the Littles in their wardrobe choices and also have a plan for the week to keep morning meltdowns at bay.

I started with five chalkboard hangers from Walmart and Liquid Chalkers chalk pens from Paper and Twine.  Testing out how I wanted to write the days of the week on the hangers was easy with these chalkers.  They go on like a paint pen, have the look of a chalk pen and wipe off clean with a wet cloth.

You would want to use these chalkers instead of regular chalk so that the days of the week actually stay on the board during use and not on your Littles' hands or clothing.

Note:  Make sure that you are using a non-porous chalkboard hanger or it will be tough to get the chalk pen off once it is dried.  If you have this problem take a little finger nail polish remover to it and it comes right off. These chalkers do not work on porous surfaces, so remember to test a small spot and allow to dry overnight then try to remove before you use them on any large surfaces.

Next I used five large decorative style Command Hooks and placed them on the door.  I was careful to measure out enough space to hang all of the hangers with clothes on them.  You may want to actually hang an outfit or two on the hangers and then test the space before you stick the hook to your door.

I was lucky enough to find some cute pink children's hangers with the pants clips on them at Walmart.  They are great because you can hang the entire outfit together.  They also have the strap grooves so that Little Miss' tiny shirt straps don't fall off the hanger.  I love these things!

Now you are ready to pick out a week's worth of school outfits and be prepared for anything that may come...well maybe not, but at least this is one thing off your morning to do list!

Be sure to check out the Liquid Chalkers!  They are a fun way to label anything while preparing for back to school.

HEALTHY TURKEY MEATLOAF

When you have had a hard week and just need a little comforting, there is nothing better than some good old comfort food.  However, comfort food is hardly ever good for your waist line.  Here in the South, it is usually full of butter, grease and lard, fried to a crisp or contains so much fat you hate your comforted self after you have eaten it.

After last week I really wanted some down home comfort food that wouldn't derail my health plan.  This recipe hit the spot!  It is a lower fat and no carb take on Momma's Meat Loaf.

What You Need:
  • 2 lb ground turkey
  • 4 tbsp Worcestershire sauce (divided)
  • 1 cup ketchup (divided)
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/2 tbsp chili powder
  • 1 1/2 tbsp minced garlic
  • 1/2 tbsp onion powder
  • 1/2 green pepper
  • 1/2 red onion (white can be used as well)
  • and the secret ingredient.... 1/2 cup crushed Rudolph's Original Pork Rinds

What You Do:

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit;
  • In a large bowl mix all ingredients until combined;
  • Form into two loaves and place into two greased loaf pans;
  • Bake uncovered for 40 minutes;
  • Mix 1/4 cup ketchup and 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce in a small bowl for form a glaze;
  • Baste the tops of the loaves with the glaze;
  • Bake for another 10 minutes;
  • Let sit for 5 minutes outside the oven before cutting.
  • Enjoy!

Who knew you could substitute pork rinds for the bread in meat loaf.  You can substitute them for tons of things!  They are a great source of protein and a wonderful snack as well.  I am so excited that one of my favorite snacks can be also be used for some of my favorite recipes.

There is nothing like a healthy comfort food that you don't feel guilty for eating.  My littles even loved this!  Winner Winner Turkey Loaf Dinner!

MONDAY FITNESS MAKEOVER - Crazy Wrap Thing!

Good Monday Morning my lovely ladies.  I am back from a much needed blogging hiatus.  Life gets too busy sometimes to keep up with everything and this past week was certainly one of those times.

I am back in action and bringing you a review of a few wonderful new health products from It Works!  I am sure you have heard of this company by now.  It has spread like wildfire in the past year.  I now have too many friends to count on one hand who are into these products.

I was lucky enough to work with one of my friends from high school, Kristen Bradley, to review the Body Applicator Wraps and the On The Go Greens.

Because the Greens fall to the back behind the "Crazy Wrap Things" most of the time, I want to feature them first and foremost.  I was given two On the Go Greens packets to try.  I mixed one of the packets with 8 oz of ice water and enjoyed.

Now, you have to know that the drink turns green once the mix is combined.  Don't worry it doesn't taste green.  It actually is delicious!! It has a wonderful berry smell and flavor.

The greens are formulated to help with detox and digestion along with many other things.  It has 8+ fruits and vegetable servings in every packet.  They are also full of antioxidants.  After even my first greens drink I already felt better.  I definitely felt the effects after the second drink a day later.  I felt more energized.

These are a great healthy and natural addition to the water you are already drinking during the day.  You only need one serving per day, so I used it as my mid afternoon refresher.  Kind of like a little treat!

Now on to what you all have been waiting for...The Ultimate Body Applicator.  I am going to warn you now that if you do not want to see my stomach in all its glory, please divert your eyes.  I have had two children and have the scars to prove it.  If you don't like it...leave now or forever hold your peace.

Ok now that you have been warned!

I actually had great results from my wraps, but they weren't as dramatic as some others I have seen.  I was happy overall with the results.  I was so excited I forgot to take my first before picture, so I decided to post my two after pictures.

Before we get to the pictures I want to let you know my wrapping process.  I wrapped at the end of the day after I had a warm shower.  I applied the wrap then wrapped an ace bandage around my stomach and the wrap.  I left the wrap on for 45 minutes the first time and for one hour the second time.  During my wraps I drank tons of water.  The applicator gives you a nice cooling feeling and smells a little like an ointment.  Once I was finished I unwrapped the ace bandage and rubbed the additional lotion from the Body Applicator into my skin.

The top two pictures are after my first wrap.  You are able to wrap every 72 hours.  The bottom set of pictures is after my second wrap done 72 hours later.

Before my first wrap my measurements (2 inches above my belly button and 2 inches below my belly button) were 41 inches and 36 inches.

Again the top pictures are from the first wrap and the bottom set are from the second.  As you can see I lost a total of 2 inches above my belly button and 3 inches under my belly button after both wraps.

Not only was I impressed by the inches lost by this "Crazy Wrap Thing", but I was also impressed by how it firmed my skin and lessened my stretch marks.  It also made my skin super soft!

Now, do the results last you ask?  Yes, they actually do!  I have measured since then and I have fluctuated only about half an inch.  My skin still feels more firm than before.

I have to say this is not a quick fix for weight loss by any means!  Diet and exercise always need to be the first way to lose weight.  The greens are an amazing addition to your weight loss routine or even for a healthy lifestyle routine.  They just make you feel good.  I would recommend the wraps to anyone who needs a boost at first to continue their weight loss journey or to anyone who has lost weight and needs to firm up their skin.

It really does work!!

If you want to see for yourself, please visit Kristen's It Works site to purchase your products.  She is amazing at customer service and believes in this product 100%.  You should see her results with the other products as well as the greens and body applicators.

It Works also has a loyalty program that saves you money in the long run.  The perks are above.  It is really the way to go if you want to sign up for these products and trust me...YOU DO!!

Have you heard of the It Works! Products?  Have you ever tried any of them?  Do you think it is something you would like to try now?

Check it out!

SNEAK PEEK INTO MY BLOGGER BAG

As most of you know, Monday was my birthday!  The Hubs purchased a new "Blogger Bag" for me for my birthday and so graciously allowed me to carry it before hand.  I couldn't wait to show it off to you, so let's...

Take a Peek into my Blogger Bag!

I must admit I searched and searched Etsy forever for a new bag that could carry everything I needed for blogging all in one place.  I was previously carrying a laptop bag with some things in it and then a camera bag also.  What a pain, right?

I finally found what I was looking for and a super cute one at that.  I found this laptop/camera bag at Kailo Chic on Etsy. She has tons of cute bags, jewelry and accessories!  She designed this bag herself and did a great job at it.  It has everything a blogger, or photographer even, could ask for.

The bag is made out of a sturdy canvas material and has thick faux leather straps for comfortable carrying.  The canvas holds up well and doesn't let the bag flop over.  The straps are slightly padded inside for comfort.  This bag features two handles and a removable messenger style strap.  I have been using the messenger strap because the bag can get heavy and crossbody is better on your back.

The sides and bottom of the bag are padded to keep your precious electronics safe and secure.  There are also pegs on the bottom to keep the bag off of the floor.

Ok, let's move on to see what I have inside...

As you can see there is a laptop sleeve inside the bag with a Velcro strap that holds that baby safely in place.  In my bag I have my white 14" HP Chromebook.  I love that thing!!  The laptop sleeve holds up to a 17" laptop.

The bag also comes with removable padded dividers that Velcro in to create a nice safe spot for my precious DSLR camera and lens.  I love that I could move these around to make whatever configuration I wanted for my personal camera and accessories.

Obviously I am using my camera to take the pictures, but it would normally go in that empty spot.  The the left is my zoom lens and to the right is where I keep the charger, computer mouse and other miscellaneous accessories.

Also on the right side of the bag you will see a little pocket holding pens and then there is another clear zipper pouch that holds my mini office supplies necessary to keep my blogger self organized.

In these pockets I carry:

* Mini highlighters (Target One Spot)
* Post It Notes
* Post It Flags
* Mini monthly calendar for personal use (Target One Spot)
* Bic MultiColor Pens (Amazon)
* Camera Remote
* Extra SD Card

See how it all neatly fits into the provided pouches!  I love being organized and this just makes my heart smile.  I also love that the bag came with a key clip on the inside.  I have used this multiple times when I don't want to also carry my purse.  I just clip those babies on that thing and don't worry about losing them.

I also love that the inside of the bag is a light blue.  This makes it very easy to find things inside the bag.  They are not lost like they are in my dark purse.  The baby blue goes perfectly with the navy on the outside as well.

 I also received the cutest pink chevron camera strap from The Preppy Pair to sport inside my new Blogger Bag.  Let me take a minute to tell you that The Preppy Pair has the cutest stuff around.  You can visit them straight from my sidebar.  They have koozies, bags, clothes, jewelry, accessories and much more.  It is a monogram lover's paradise!

Ok, back to the strap!  This is an amazingly well made camera strap with vibrant colors and it is also super comfortable.  It is longer than my standard Cannon strap, which I was happy about.  It adjusts up to 52"!  I hate when my camera is in my chin.  I also like to wear it crossbody and if the strap is too short the camera ends up in your arm pit.  Ain't nobody got time for that!

The strap is 2" wide and has a bit of padding in it for comfort.  It is super durable and sturdy!  I love it!

They currently have hot pink, lime green and teal in stock.  They will not be getting anymore this season so hurry on over and get yours now!!  They are only $8.95 with FREE SHIPPING!!! That is $8.95 Shipped ladies!!

The last part of the bag I want to show you is the outside.  In addition to the amazingly organized inside, there are even more outside features that I love.

On one side of the bag there is a zipper pocket where I have my personal items such as "girly things", chapstick and a mirror.  I like to have those closed off so they are hidden.  The pocket is a nice size and can hold a lot more than that, but for my purposes that was all I needed.

On each side of the bag there are more pockets.  This is where I hold my cell phone and the Mifi when I am away from the house and need some internet!  Who doesn't always need internet?

As shown in the picture above, on the other side of the bag is one last pocket.  This is my favorite one!  This pocket has a magnetic closure and a zipper opening at the bottom.  The zipper opening is provided so that when you travel you can slide your Blogger Bag onto your rolling luggage handle and carry it all together.  Genius right?!?!

In this pocket I carry my nifty Blog Planner from Confessions of a Homeschooler, some pretty pocket folders and my menu planner.  The blog planner has saved my blogging life and my sanity.  I use this thing to track everything and the best part is...it is FREE!!  Hop on over to Confessions of a Homeschooler and print one for yourself.  If you don't already have a planner, you can start in August and print for the rest of the year.

The pocket folders hold any loose papers that I gather for the Littles or from work or even any papers needed for product reviews.

My menu planner goes with me everywhere.  I not only write a menu every week, I track what I am eating in there.  It helps me be accountable for what I put in my body.  It is all part of my Fitness Makeover!

This bag and camera strap were by far the best gifts this year!  I feel like I am more organized and always ready to take photos, jot down an idea or even make a post whenever I need to.  Not to mention being stylish while doing it.  It is a blogger's dream!

If you like what you see and want one for yourself, head over to Kailo Chic and get one for yourself.  You can use the code SAVE10 to save 10% off any purchase.  Also, don't forget to get yourself a chevron camera strap from The Preppy Pair before they are sold out!

** I received these items at a discounted price and/or free for
review purposes.  However, all opinions are 100% my own.
