THROWBACK THURSDAY - Dinosaur Birthday Party

Today, in the spirit of party planning, I am sharing Little Man's 4th Birthday Dino Party!  I thought it only fair to share a boy party since Strawberry Shortcake was such a hit!

We always have our parties out in the back yard.  Back when Little Man was four we had very few regular friends and the new ones never knew how to get around the house to the back yard.  I decided to make "Dino Xing" signs from free printables printed on yellow cardstock and taped to paint sticks from Lowe's.  These lined the yard from front to back and made a path to the party.

Instead of just giving party hats, I gave safari hats I found on Oriental Trading, plastic beach buckets with shovels and big magnifying glasses from the Dollar Tree and DIY binoculars.  The binoculars were made from scrapbook paper, toilet paper rolls and yarn.  Every child had their very own paleontology gear!

The Happy Birthday banner and cupcake toppers were free printables as well. I tied them together with blue ribbon. I purchased palm leaves and bamboo garland from Oriental Trading  and taped them all over the fence to make it look like Jurassic Park.

Centerpieces for the tables were simply plastic dinosaur toys from the dollar tree.  I knew these would serve a duel purpose in that Little Man could play with them once the party was over.

For the food I made ham and cheese sandwiches cut into dinosaurs, pasta salad, deviled eggs and individually wrapped candy corn.  Everything had it's own dinosaur inspired name written on a hand made food label made from scrapbook paper.

We had multiple different stations for the littles to enjoy.  These included a Coloring Station with dinosaur cut outs, stencils and dino shaped crayons from Oriental Trading, a Dinosaur Dig in a sandbox with mini dinos and Grow-a-Saurus with foam dinosaur capsules that grow in water from the Dollar Tree.

I purchased the cupcakes at Sams that were actually already made in my colors.  I topped them with the free printable cupcake toppers and the others with the extra mini dinos from what I didn't use in the Dinosaur Dig (after washing them of course).

Little Man's shirt actually came from Walmart!  I loved it and he loves orange and football, so it was a hit!

Every little went home with an extra little thank you bag.  These are the recycled fabric bags from the Dollar Tree with puffy painted dinos that I created with the same stencils from the Coloring Station.  Each thank you note was hand made from scrapbook paper and a thank you stamp.  These bags included some dino stickers and pencil and candy.

This was one of my first big parties.  I have come a long way in my saving money and still throwing a great party, but this is still one of my favorites!  Enjoy!

  3. Oh my goodness! LOVE IT! You are so creative, Tela. I think the most creative I ever got for one of my kids birthday's was Matthew's Madagascar party, where I turned the party room into a "jungle" with craft paper palm trees and vines. LOL. Happy Thursday!

    1. I sure hope so. I showed him the pictures this morning and he was like, "oh yeah, that was fun!" Ha! Maybe when he gets older he will appreciate it more. I know Miss Priss is all about the parties, so she is a bit more appreciative at a young age. I will give him time. :)
