The next step was to paint the oval. I chose to paint it with some black chalkboard paint that I already had. Any black paint should work, but you will want to make sure it is made to stick to metal.
Once the black paint dried, I was able to trace my numbers with a pencil onto the oval. This is where the chalkboard paint came in handy because the pencil showed up and was easy to apply to the paint.
Do you see the little paint peel on the 9? I was impatient and started tracing before the paint was completely dry, but it will be fixed in a bit...don't you worry your pretty little head.
I then began to fill in the numbers with White Wash acrylic paint. I did this with a small water color brush and applied two coats to each number.
After watching that paint dry...believe me it was EXCITING! Can you hear the sarcasm?? After the white paint dried, I applied the Krylon ColorMaster Clear Gloss to protect the paint from weathering and also make it have a shine. I ended up applying two coats of this for good measure.
Finally, today I was able to plant my beautiful Viola Celestial Starry Night flowers that I found on clearance at Walmart! They bloom from Spring to Autumn, so we will have plenty of time to enjoy them before I stick some Pansies in the buckets for the Winter. These flowers are perennials, so I will probably get them in the ground before they are completely foregone. That way I can enjoy them next year as well.
I hope you have been PINspired by my creation! Check out this week's PINspiration list to see what might be revealed next week. Happy May Day y'all!
