FIVE ON FRIDAY - Big Things Happening Here

Finally Friday!!  Why is it that when you have a few days off the weeks feel longer even though they are only four days?  It is an unknown phenomenon!!  It has been a great week here on the blog and in real life.  There are many new things coming my way here on Sweet Southern T that I want to share with you, as well as some of the highlights of the week!

Final Baseball Tournament - Go Razorbacks!

Last night was the last tournament game of the season for Little Man's Little League team.  This was his first Little League Coach Pitch team.  I am so proud of how he has progressed from where he started.  He learned the fundamentals of baseball and sportsmanship.  He learned that winning is fun and losing happens, hurts and is over.  He learned to work hard and play hard!  They won last night right before the game was called for the rain.  I can't wait to see what his little baseball future holds.  GO RAZORBACKS!

Weekend Full of Party Planning

This weekend is going to be full of running around gathering supplies, making lists, cutting paper strawberries and the list goes on...Little Miss turns four next Thursday and her Strawberry Shortcake party is fast approaching.  I will be sure to share my weekend accomplishments with you next week.  Until then, be sure to check out what I have already done!  I can't wait to see how it all pulls together!

Throwback Thursday Link Party

I have teamed up with these lovely ladies to start a new Throwback Thursday link party.  We are still working on the "official" name, but this is my take on it.  I was too excited to wait to share the news!  Even though the name may change the concept stays the same.  Kelly and Cat have both posted their own Throwback Thursday posts for the last two weeks.  They were such great ideas we decided to open it up to you all.  This link party will include any pictures/posts that have happened anytime in the past...this does not include within the last week.  We are still working out the kinks, but hope to bring this to you next week!  I love to party like it's 1999!!!

If you have been living under a rock for the past few days you have missed that a very wise woman has passed away.  Maya Angelou passed away on May 28, 2014 leaving behind a legacy of greatness.  I am inspired by all of her quotes.  Check out some of them here on Her Campus and be inspired too!

Have I told you lately that I love Summer, and I love pink and orange!  This color block outfit was perfect for my summer night out with friends at our favorite Mexican restaurant for margaritas! Comfy and cute is the way I roll!

These color jeggings are super comfy and stylish at the same time.  They are stretchy (to make room for one more basket of chips) and ultra soft, unlike any other pair of jeans I have ever worn.  Not to mention they are under $12 per pair!!  I own them in eight different colors!

The color block shirt is the perfect match for these wonderful pants.  I like to pair a comfy flowing shirt with any tight fitting pants.  I love color blocked fashion and these Summer colors are beautiful.

I absolutely love these Mudd wedge sandals!  Wedges are the most comfortable "heels" you could ever wear, I swear by them!

Mudd Henna Camel Platform Wedge | Kohls

Last, but not least my favorite fashion accessory...My Oakley polarized sunglasses!  These are the most expensive part of the entire outfit and well worth it.  Not only are they cute, they protect these eyes of mine!  These are my one and only splurge and I wear them ALL THE TIME!  Love!

Do you have a favorite comfy and cute summer outfit?  How about your favorite splurge item you couldn't ever live without?  How about a new headband from Khloe's Bows?  If you are not familiar, be sure to check out my post here and enter to win three of your own!

Well, it is that time again where I go a little nuts pinning everything on Pinterest, running around with scissors and ribbon and sleeping when I am dead! is birthday party prep time!!  Miss Priss will be turning four (I can't believe it) next Thursday and her Strawberry Shortcake Party will be next Saturday.  I will not sleep or accomplish much other than party prep until then.

I love birthday parties and party planning!  I always make it much bigger than it really needs to be.  I always have, but it is one thing my Littles will remember me for.  Birthdays are a BIG DEAL in my house. Especially the party!  I let the Littles choose the theme and I run with it.  Miss Priss chose hers August of last year!! So we have been planning since then.

I started collecting things that I saw that would coordinate with the theme after she decided, but just started putting it all together last night.  I want to share with you what I have done in stages and then I will do a party reveal afterward.  So, kick back and enjoy and remember to stop back by to check out the other parts to my Strawberry Shortcake party!

I will start with the invitation.  Usually I like to dress Miss Priss up and take her picture for her invitation, but time did not allow for that with our beach trip and the end of her school coming a little earlier than expected. So, instead I went to PicMonkey and designed an invite myself.  I went to Google and found some free clipart of strawberries and Strawberry Shortcake.  I then designed the invitation, printed them as 5x7 prints on Recollections White Cardstock paper with my laser jet color printer and sent them off to friends and family!

I then started on the party favors.  I love to give party favors, but hate just giving out candy.  Mostly because I hate receiving it at other parties. Ha! We have enough candy in our house now to open our own shop. Instead I purchased these little strawberry grow kits at the One Spot at Target at the beginning of spring. They were only $0.50 each! I was super excited!!

I had found some "berry cute" free printable thank you tags on Pinterest that I tracked back to One Charming Party and decided to cut out the bottom portions of these and use them on my tie on tags that I purchased at the dollar section of Michaels.  Are you seeing the trend?? I don't spend much to make these parties awesome!  The dollar section of any store is your friend!!

As I said, I cut out the bottom portion of the printable tag and glued it inside the dollar tags.  I then tied them onto the strawberry grow kits and placed them in my "Goodwill find" basket full of clearance Easter grass (which was $0.05 per bag). Voila!! Inexpensive and Cute!!

I wanted to make sure that everyone knew to take a favor home with them in case I forgot to mention it in the craziness of the party, so I made the free printable sign below.  Please feel free to download it for yourself if you would like.  If you use it in your party, please be kind and link back to this post!  Thanks.

Next I moved on to the table centerpieces.  I had bought some two pack clay pots at the Dollar Tree a while back and also some chalkboard label stakes in the dollar section at Michaels.  I decided to fill them with the clearance Easter grass and some old school strawberry filled hard candies.

I then hot glued handmade bows, that I made from strawberry ribbon found on clearance at Michaels, to the top corner of the stakes. As a finishing touch I wrote a #4 on some stakes and drew hearts on the others.  I am pretty excited about how they turned out!

Last, but not least I purchased Miss Priss' party dress at Kohls!  I was going to attempt to sew one for her, but as I am not really the sewing type and it would take more time and money for me to figure it out than to buy one...I decided on the latter option!

I apologize for the cell phone screen shot, but when I went to look up the dress again on the Kohls website it is now untraceable!  I must have gotten lucky!

However, I got a steal on the dress.  Kohls was having a half off sale and I had a 30% off coupon and free shipping, so I got this baby for ... DRUM ROLL PLEASE ... $9.80 shipped!  I love it when a plan comes together!!

I will be working hard for the rest of the week on the rest of the party planning, so remember to stop back by and check out what else I have in store!

This past weekend was the first weekend in a long time that I totally took a vacation!  I didn't blog, I didn't check emails, I didn't craft or cook, I didn't do ANYTHING!!!  I totally vegged out on the beach and took one moment at a time.  It was an awesome wind down weekend!  I am back now and ready for action!
If you follow me on Instagram, you have probably already seen most of these pictures, but now you get a story with it!  How Exciting!!!???  I not once pulled out my DSLR, so Instagram is what you get on this recap!

I hope that you all had a fabulous weekend!  Mine started with Thursday night!  Thursday night was Little Man's baseball tournament.  They didn't win, but my little guy hit his first "real hit" of the season!!!  By real hit, I mean one that actually was a line drive to second base.  He has tipped it before, but this was a REAL connection!!  We could not have been more took all season, but he got it!

Friday morning the Hubs and I sent Little Man off to school, the Hubs went to Urgent Care to find out he had strep throat, got a Z-Pak (took it like a champ), he then took my car to the dealership for them to extract a HUGE screw that was in my tire, we packed up everything for the beach with the help of Miss Priss (of course) and then pulled Little Man out of school early and headed to the beach!  The traffic was horrible, the Hubs was sick, we were all tired...but we finally made it!  Nothing was going to stop us from taking this trip!!

Once we were in Surfside, we unpacked and headed out to our favorite spot for dinner, Bubba's Fish Shack!  If you are ever in Myrtle Beach, SC or surrounding you have to eat here!! Everything is amazing and cheap (for the beach)!  The Fried Green Tomatoes are our favorites.

Crab Cake Sandwich

Ok if you weren't hungry, I bet you are now!  After dinner it was on to Marshalls and Target for new bathing suits and some milk and eggs.  I know, weird combo, but you know how it is when you arrive at the beach...

I found these cute cute cute one piece suits at Marshalls!  I am usually a two piece kind of gal, but this year has been way to busy for me to get into the shape I needed  wanted to be in prior to exposing myself in a two piece.  So, I opted for some one piece cuteness!!  The pink suit is actually Juicy Couture and I got it for $49.99.  Can I get a...YOU GO GIRL!?!

We also had a little diva model time in Target with Miss Priss.  If you can see, these sunglasses are being worn over her prescription glasses!  She is a hoot!  Her headband is also one made by E of Khloe's Bows. She loves that thing!

The next morning we were up early and off to the beach!  I sported my new suit, the kids played until they were ready to pass out and we had an awesome time!

See...she is still wearing the headband!

Beachin' by Jake Owen on Grooveshark

Sunday was also a beach filled day!  We were there from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. (kind of like a full time job).  We had lunch there, which the kids thought was simply's the little things.  Miss Priss wanted a new suit like mommy, so we got her one at the most amazing sale ever at Children's Place outlet the night before! I bought a ton of stuff and only spent $100.00!!!  Yay for a sale!  She sported her new suit on Sunday!

We also met some new friends, some that were welcome and some not so much!

Little Man found this in the ocean with him and the Hubs took care of it!  Thank the Lord my son knows what a jellyfish is and doesn't get near them!

Monday was spent by the pool at my parent's condo and then packing up to make our way back home. We had an awesome time and can't wait to go back in a few weeks for our real vacation!

I also want to extend a special thank you to all of the Men and Women who are serving or who have served our Country to give us the freedom to enjoy time with our families on the beach and to actually be able to have a vacation!  Thank You!!  Happy Memorial Day!

What did you do over Memorial Day weekend? Do you have beach plans any time soon?

Today is the last day of school for Miss Priss and nearing the end for Little Man.  Last week was Teacher Appreciation week at their schools.  I featured a pin on my Weekly PINspirations last week, of a teacher appreciation gift that I loved.  I loved it so much, I decided to make that my PINspiration Reveal of the week.

As I said last week, it takes a special person to be a teacher and I respect them with all my heart!  There is no way I would ever be able to have this profession.  I lack patience...with everyone...much less 26 screaming children on the daily.  Ha!  So if you are a teacher...THANK YOU!

I loved the idea of giving our teachers a towel, magazine and some other goodies for their summer vacation.  Who doesn't need another beach towel?  I know I get a new one every year...I am a little obsessed!

In my Summer Survival Teacher Appreciation Gift:
  • An inexpensive colorful beach towel
  • All You Magazine (this is a win win with it's great stories as well as coupons)
  • Travel sunscreen
  • Chapsick
  • Sweet Frog gift card
  • Thank You note

I ended up rolling the towels as they were in the PINspiration and placing them on top of the magazine.  I then tied the smaller items of sunscreen and chapstick together with twine so that they would not get lost in transition.  I then slid the gift card in the mix and tied it all up with my favorite gift bow making material...rafetta!

For Miss Priss' teachers I wrote a personal thank you note in a colorful card and slid it into the gift as she is only three and can't write yet.  Little Man is six and is able to write his own thank you note, so we did his gift a little different!

For Little Man's teacher (who teaches 26 children alone everyday) we made her gift a bit more elaborate!  I think she deserved it, don't you?  I purchased a bag in the One Spot of Target to pack all of her things in. This can also double as a beach tote for her.  Other than the tote, she received the same gift items as listed above.

I wrote a personal thank you note to her on the colorful card and had Little Man write his teacher a thank you note of his own.  He was sure to tell her his favorite part of her class this year which was Science!

We delivered their gifts at school the next morning and they loved them!  I was so happy that I found the PINspiration and was able to make it my own to show our teachers how much we love them!
Do you have a favorite Teacher Appreciation Gift?  Are there any teachers out there that would love to receive this gift?
